Facts about our anonymous donor & cryopreserved specimen

BioGenetics Corporation, headquartered in Mountainside, New Jersey, was established in 1980 to recruit, evaluate, cryopreserve(freeze), store and distribute sperm from anonymous donors of diverse ethnic origin. The cryopreserved donor vials are available for purchase by licensed physicians or their clients for use in assisted reproduction.

BioGenetics is an FDA registered cell and tissue bank facility.

BioGenetics is licensed by:
The NJ State Department of Health as a Laboratory under CLIA
The NY State Department of Health as a Reproductive Cell & Tissue Bank

BioGenetics adheres to medical standards and ethics set forth by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), related scientific associations and regulatory agencies.


Management and testing of anonymous donors

At BioGenetics Corporation, the selection of prospective donors relies on a recruitment program whereby the individual must have a verifiable college education and be in good health. The preferred age limit is under 40 in order to avoid genetic anomalies. Prior fertility is noted but not required.

The donors participating in the "Open IDentification" program must share their identity with the recipient and the recipient's spouse/partner if any. The above requirement is an integral part of the selection and participation process of the OPEN IDentification program. Participants, both donor and recipient, must meet from the start of the selection process during a series of "face to face" meetings. The culmination of the selection process will be marked by creating a written "BIOLOGICAL PARENTING AGREEMENT"* THE CONTENT of which STIPULATE EACH OF THE PARTICIPANTS RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS AS THEY RELATE TO THE OFF-SPRING'S. The number of pregnancies is limited to "2" recipients per State, in the U.S.

*Legal counsel assistance is available to facilitate the process.

A copy of a donor profile, which includes the donor's  personal and family health history as well as a personal life style interview is available for review by the prospective client and/or her physician. BioGenetics Corporation maintains all personal  information from donors and recipients as privileged and confidential, thus protecting the identity and anonymity of all the parties.

In addition to a complete physical examination, prospective donors are required to undergo a psychological evaluation by a licensed board certified independent Psychologist as well as extensive testing which includes:

• Complete Semen Analysis • Routine Bacteriological Culture (B) Strep)
• Blood Group and Rh Factor • HIV 1/2,
• Chemistry Profile • HTLV I&II
• Complete Blood Count (CBC) • Hepatitis C virus
• Chromosome Study • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
• B-Thalassemia • Hepatitis B Core Antibody
• Screening for Cystic Fibrosis • Syphilis (RPR Serology)
• Tay Sachs Screening • Chlamydia (Urine)
• Sickle Cell Anemia. • Gonorrhea (Culture)
• Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies • Ureaplasma (Culture)
• Mycoplasma (Culture) • Herpes Virus (Culture)

Jewish donors are tested for the following:

  • Gaucher Disease 
  • Canavan Disease 
  • Niemann-Pick Disease 
Subsequently, All BioGenetics anonymous donors are tested on a monthly basis:
for HIV 1/2, HTLV I&II,  Hepatitis B surface Antigen and Hepatitis C virus, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) as listed above.

To Protect all parties involved, BioGenetics Corporation requires that the physician, recipient, and her spouse and/or partner (when applicable), complete and sign all appropriate documents.

  • Physician/Medical Facility Agreement for Purchase of Cryopreserved Donor Sperm, (CDS). 
  • A  Physician Authorization Form for the Direct Patient purchase of CDS.  
  • A Patient Acknowledgment & Consent for therapeutic assisted reproduction by CDS  
  • A Phone Confirmation Follow-up Form
